You might not be sure what praying in other tongues is or what it’s for.  Let’s take a look together at this wonderful gift from God.  To begin with, praying in tongues is praying in a supernatural language.  Also, the word “tongues” means languages.  Plural.

When the Holy Spirit gives you the ability to speak in other tongues He is granting you the ability to speak, or pray, in a language, or languages, you’ve never learned before.   Amazing!  Being able to speak in other tongues comes when The Lord Jesus baptizes us with The Holy Spirit.

When we say: “Father, please give me The Holy Spirit,” The Holy Spirit comes into us and brings with Him the ability for us to pray in tongues.  Another aspect of praying in tongues is that you’re able to pray perfect prayers, prayers given to you directly by the Holy Spirit.  So imagine, when you don’t know how or what to pray for, The Holy Spirit will help you to pray a perfect prayer in other tongues.  Finally, the Bible says that when we pray in an “unknown tongue” (also called praying in the Spirit) we build up ourselves on the inside, in our spirit.  This is like building ourselves into a powerful edifice or building.  When we pray in tongues we actually become stronger spiritually and the scripture says that our faith becomes stronger.
