Good morning redeemed ones!
When God told Adam and Eve they would “die”, He was referring to the curse of SPIRITUAL DEATH. After being separated from God in the garden of Eden, man became the slave of sin and death.
In Genesis 2:17, we read about the first curse to come upon man as a result of disobeying God. It says,
- “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.”
SPIRITUAL DEATH is a separation from God and His provisions. In Genesis 3:23-24 it says,
- “Therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”
Death was not originally part of God’s plan for man. 1 Corinthians 15:26 tells us that physical death is an enemy of God and man.
Family, you are a tri-part being: You are a spirit, have a soul, and live in a physical body (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23). Your soul is where your mind, will, and emotions reside. That’s why it’s so important to renew your mind with the Word of God so you can fully benefit from your born-again spirit. Your renewed mind will be able to hear from God more clearly.
The Scriptures tells us that there are 3 types of death from which we have been redeemed:
- Spiritual death (separation from God).
- Physical death (separation of the spirit from the body).
- Eternal death (what happens when a person’s spirit is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone for eternity).
This is why we need to receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God they went into partnership with Satan. Satan then imparted to mankind his own nature and as a result, death passed into us and has followed down the stream of human life through the ages. SPIRITUAL DEATH gave satan dominion instead of us having dominion. It separated us from God. SPIRITUAL DEATH gave us mortality with all its diseases and pains that end in the physical dissolution of the human body. SPIRITUAL DEATH is the parent of all sorrow, grief, and tears. It marred not only mankind, but the animal and vegetable world as well. It’s the curse that came upon everything at the fall of man.
Man isn’t lost because of what he does, but because of what he is. That’s why we need a new nature. Our old nature must be taken away and a new one must fill its place. That’s the reason Jesus said, “I am come that you might have life and have it in abundance.” (See John 10:10). That life is the nature of God. When a spiritually dead man receives this new nature, it makes him a new creation in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!
