Good morning redeemed one!
Sickness and disease often cause people to question God. The truth is, God doesn’t cause people to get sick and He desires everyone to live a long, healthy life. Psalm 91:16 declares,
- With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.
Sickness and disease are part of the curse (read Deuteronomy 28:15-68), which was established judgment for the sins of all mankind. However, Jesus Christ has REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF SICKNESS! We have authority over sickness and disease (see Luke 10:19).
Galatians 3:13 declares that Christ has REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW. The “REDEEM” means to buy back or to deliver. We were REDEEMED from the curse of the law when Jesus died for our sins.
The law is found primarily in the first 5 books of the Bible. When someone broke the law, a curse followed. Sickness is a part of the curse.
The curse of the law is a three-fold curse, which consists of the following:
- Poverty
- Sickness
- Spiritual death
We can become confused about the true nature of God, if we’re not aware of the true meaning of the Scriptures before translation. The original Hebrew bible text uses verbs in the permissive tense instead of the causative tense, which is found in the English translation of the Bible. For example, when we read, “The Lord shall smite thee…” it should actually read, “The Lord will allow you to be smitten.” Other examples depict God as being the one creating evil or sending evil spirits, but He does not. You can find these in Isaiah 45:7, Amos 3:6 and 1 Samuel 16:14.
Remember that sickness and disease are not products of love and God is love. God may allow evil to happen, but He’s not the author of evil. In other words, when people rebelled against God, He removed His protection from them and they stepped out from under His protection and into the curse on the earth.
During Jesus’ public ministry, He healed a woman who was bent over and was utterly unable to lift herself up. In Luke 13:11-12, 16, we read,
- And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity…So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
We can learn many valuable lessons from these three scriptures. Here are a few:
- As Christians, we are all sons and daughters of Abraham.
- Anyone who is a part of the covenant of Abraham shouldn’t remain in bondage.
- Jesus identified Satan as the one who had bound the woman with the infirmity for 18 years.
- Jesus battles Satan during the time He was physically on earth. He went about doing good, healing all those oppressed by the devil (see Acts 10:38).
Sickness and disease are NOT God’s will for our lives. If you are in a fight, battling for your health, remember you are the healed, protecting your health. Isaiah 53:4-5 and 1 Peter 2:24 declare that Jesus bore our sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses.
Use Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:17, and 1 Peter 2:24 as weapons against sickness and disease. Be encouraged, because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (see Hebrews 13:8). He’s the Lord, He changes not (see Malachi 3:6) and He’s no respector of persons (see Acts 10:34 and Romans 2:11). If He did it one time, He’ll do it for you! Search the Scriptures in the Bible that pertain to healing and declare God’s Word over your life. He watches over His Word to perform it (see Jeremiah 1:12).
