Good morning, dearly beloved!
2 Peter 3:1-2 says,
- Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle in order to stir up your pure minds by way of reminder, that you may BE MINDFUL of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment (declaration) of the apostles of our Lord and Savior…
For example, there are some important things we are to be reminded of according to 2 Peter 3:3,
- That scoffers will come in the last days, mocking the truth and walking according to their own lusts.
He gives us an example of this in verse 4 saying,
- They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”
These are holy things, family, and it’s imperative that we don’t talk like this.
Another example is from verses 5-7,
- 5 They deliberately and willfully forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then He used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.
Then he goes on to say in verse 8,
- But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.
He’s saying this because it seems like it’s taking forever for Him to come back. What seems like an eternity to us is just a few days for the Lord. We’re not on God’s timetable.
See, in verse 9, He’s not delaying in regards to His promise, but is being patient towards us, not intending that anyone should perish (be destroyed), but that all would have time to repent!
He reminds us in verse 10 that THE DAY of the Lord will arrive and tells us how He will come:
- But the day of the LORD will come as a thief in the night (not making it real clear, people don’t expect it), in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; but the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Then Peter goes on to exhort us by saying in verses 11-12:
- Since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy (separated) conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire and the elements will melt with fervent heat.
But, we look forward to these things because God is going to create new heavens and a new earth in which RIGHTEOUSNESS dwells. We want to be diligent to be FOUND IN HIM, WITHOUT SPOT AND BLAMELESS!
See, in these last days, untaught and unstable people will twist the Scriptures to their own destruction. But, because we are being reminded of this, we can and should be on guard so that the lawless one (satan) will not be able to deceive us and cause us to fall from our steadfastness.
I encourage you to grown in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Anointed.
“Father, I always thank You for my brothers and sisters, as is fitting because their faith is growing exceedingly and their love is abounding toward one another. I thank You for their faith and patience in all their persecutions and tribulations because they are enduring. Thank You for Your faithfulness, Father ~ You won’t allow them to be tempted beyond what they’re able to bear, but will ALWAYS provide the way of escape. I thank You that they will come forth as gold, in Jesus Name, Amen.”
